A name nobody had used
The news given to Zakariya included the name: O Zakariya, indeed We give you good tidings of a boy whose name will be Yahya. We have not assigned to any before this name (19:7).
That is unusual enough to point out to a child. Before he had done anything, before he was born, he was distinguished — by a name that had never belonged to anybody.
In Surah Al 'Imran he is described in advance too: confirming a word from Allah, and honourable, abstaining from women, and a prophet from among the righteous (3:39).
Told to hold it firmly
The instruction he was given is short and strong: O Yahya, take the Scripture with determination. And We gave him judgement while a boy (19:12).
The word for determination here means strength, seriousness, taking hold of something with both hands. And the very next clause says he was given judgement — understanding, the ability to weigh things — while still a child.
For a child sitting with a Quran in front of them, this is the most directly relevant verse in any of these stories. It is about someone their own age being handed something serious and told to hold on to it properly.
What he was like
The Quran then describes him in a way it describes almost nobody else, in a short run of qualities: And affection from Us and purity, and he was fearing of Allah, and dutiful to his parents, and he was not a disobedient tyrant (19:13-14).
Dutiful to his parents sits right there in the middle, between piety and not being arrogant. Given that his parents had waited a lifetime for him, that is a quietly moving detail.
And then: And peace be upon him the day he was born and the day he dies and the day he is raised alive (19:15). Three moments, all covered. The Quran says the same of 'Isa a few verses later, in his own words (19:33).
