Learning to recite the Quran beautifully has always needed one thing above all: a teacher who can show you, word by word, exactly where you are going right and where you need to improve. For centuries that happened side by side in a maktab. Today, families are spread across cities and countries — but the need for that close, personal correction has not changed.
Maktab Quran recreates the side-by-side maktab experience online. You and your teacher share the same page of the Mushaf on screen during a live video call. When your teacher moves to a verse, highlights a word, or marks a Tajweed mistake, your screen updates instantly — no screen-sharing, no holding a Mushaf up to a webcam.
Five simple steps to your first lesson
1. Create your free account
Sign up as a student in less than a minute. There is nothing to download or install — Maktab Quran runs in any modern browser on your phone, tablet, laptop or desktop.
2. Choose your teacher
Browse our directory of qualified Quran teachers and filter by what you want to learn — Tajweed, Hifz (memorization), Noorani Qaida, Tafsir, Arabic or classes for kids. Every teacher lists their experience, languages and specialties so you can pick the right fit for you or your child. Meet our teachers →
3. Join your live class
At class time you simply open your class link and the live video lesson begins — your teacher joins as the host and you join as the student. No passwords, no meeting IDs to type, no third-party app.
4. Learn in perfect sync
This is what makes Maktab Quran different. As your teacher teaches:
- The verse follows the teacher — when they navigate to a new ayah, your display moves with them automatically.
- Words are highlighted live — tap-to-highlight shows you the exact word being recited or corrected.
- Tajweed is colour-coded — Ghunna, Madd, Idgham, Ikhfa and more, so the rules are visual, not just spoken.
- Mistakes are flagged — when your teacher marks an error, you see a clear notification on that word.
- Live notes appear instantly — corrections and reminders show up in a banner you can re-read.
5. Track your progress
After each lesson you can review the words that were marked, see which surahs and ayahs you have covered, and pick up exactly where you left off next time. Steady, measurable progress — lesson after lesson.
Why synchronized lessons work better
On a normal video call, a student squints at a teacher holding a Mushaf to the camera, unsure which word is being corrected. Our real-time sync removes that guesswork completely. Because you are literally looking at the same highlighted word at the same moment, corrections land, Tajweed sticks, and lessons move faster. It is the closest thing to sitting beside your teacher — from anywhere in the world.
