Learning the Quran in Amravati
Amravati district has about 4.2 lakh Muslims — one resident in seven at the 2011 Census — and a long Islamic history in Berar. Achalpur, the old Ellichpur, is the district's second city, twinned with Paratwada, and was for centuries a seat of government in Berar. Muslim families also live in large numbers in Amravati city and in Anjangaon Surji, Daryapur, Warud, Morshi, Chandur Bazar and Dhamangaon.
The district runs from the orange orchards of Warud and Morshi to the forests of Melghat, where Dharni and Chikhaldara are tribal hill talukas far from the plains towns. Distances are real, and in the hill and village areas a structured Quran class may simply not exist.
Online lessons bring a qualified teacher to any of the fourteen talukas — five classes a week, thirty minutes each, with the teacher's notes visible to the parent.
Which talukas of Amravati do you cover?
All of them. Lessons are online, so a family in any of Amravati district's 14 talukas — Amravati, Bhatkuli, Nandgaon Khandeshwar, Dharni, Chikhaldara, Achalpur, Chandurbazar, Morshi, Warud, Daryapur, Anjangaon-Surji, Chandur, Dhamangaon and Tiosa — gets the same teachers, the same courses and the same class times, in town or village.

From first message to first lesson in Amravati
Starting takes three steps and usually a day or two. First, email us at info@maktab-quran.com or create a student account. Second, the student takes a free live trial lesson from home in Amravati. Third, our office confirms the teacher — matched to the student's level and any preference you give us — and agrees the daily time. There are no registration fees and nothing to install.
Which language will the teacher speak?
Our teachers teach in Urdu, Hindi or English. We do not currently have Marathi-speaking teachers, and we would rather say so plainly. In practice, most children in Amravati — whether they study in Urdu-, Marathi- or English-medium schools — follow simple Hindi or Urdu without difficulty. The Quran itself is taught in Arabic, letter by letter, with Tajweed.
From the Qaida to memorising the Quran
The path is the traditional maktab path, taught one student at a time: the Noorani Qaida, then reading the Quran with Tajweed, then — for those who want it — Hifz, with a daily sabaq, the recent portion revised as sabqi and older portions as manzil. Tafsir and Quranic Arabic are there for students who want to understand what they recite.
Female teachers, at home
Maktab Quran is founded and led by a female teacher, and the majority of our teachers are women. A girl in Achalpur or a mother in Amravati can learn with a woman teacher, in her own home, at a time that suits the family. Just tell the office when you contact us. Read more about our female Quran teachers.
Is it affordable?
We built the maktab circle so that cost is never the reason a child in Amravati cannot learn: ₹1,000 a month for five live classes a week, about ₹50 a class, in a group of no more than ten. For a private teacher, one-to-one is ₹5,000 a month. No hidden fees, month to month, free trial first. See pricing.
Is online as good as a class in person?
For recitation and Tajweed, a one-to-one online lesson is usually more thorough than a crowded class, because the teacher hears the student for the whole lesson and corrects each mistake straight away. What it cannot give is the community of a local maktab. In Amravati, where many families live far from a structured class, online is often the only daily option. Read what a maktab is.
