Learning the Quran in Solapur
Solapur, on the Karnataka border, is a textile city famous for its chadars and towels and a multilingual one: Marathi, Kannada, Telugu and Urdu are all heard in its streets. About 4.4 lakh Muslims lived in the district at the 2011 Census, one resident in ten — many of them in Solapur city, and others in Akkalkot, Barshi, Pandharpur, Mangalvedhe, Mohol, Sangole and Karmala.
Solapur's working families keep long hours — textile units, beedi work, trade — and a child's Quran routine often depends on whether anyone is free at class time. In the eleven talukas outside the city, organised maktabs are thinner on the ground.
An online lesson gives a Solapur child the same teacher at the same time every day, at home. The parent does not have to leave work, and the child does not lose a lesson because nobody could take them.
Which talukas of Solapur do you cover?
All of them. Lessons are online, so a family in any of Solapur district's 11 talukas — Barshi, Solapur North, Solapur South, Akkalkot, Madha, Karmala, Pandharpur, Mohol, Malshiras, Sangole and Mangalvedhe — gets the same teachers, the same courses and the same class times, in town or village.
| Taluka | What to know |
|---|---|
| Barshi | Largest town after Solapur. |
| Solapur North | Includes much of Solapur city. |
| Solapur South | Southern part of the city and its villages, towards Karnataka. |
| Akkalkot | Border town towards Karnataka. |
| Pandharpur | Temple town on the Bhima. |
| Mangalvedhe | Southern taluka. |
What happens after we contact you from Solapur?
We reply within 24 hours and fix a free trial lesson at a time that suits you. At the trial the teacher listens to the student read, so the level is set correctly from the first class. If you have a preference — a woman teacher for your daughter, a teacher who speaks Urdu — tell us, and our office matches the teacher. Regular lessons then run five days a week, thirty minutes each, and the same teacher stays with the student.
Can the lessons be in Urdu?
Yes. Urdu is one of the most common teaching languages among our teachers, alongside Hindi, English and Arabic. For families in Solapur who speak Urdu or Dakhni at home, an Urdu-speaking teacher is usually the natural choice; ask for one and we match you. We are honest about one gap: we do not yet have teachers who teach in Marathi.
Which course is right for my child?
It depends on where your child is today. Cannot read Arabic yet: the Noorani Qaida. Reads, but with mistakes: Tajweed. Reads well and wants to memorise: Hifz. Wants to understand: Tafsir or Quranic Arabic. You do not need to decide alone — the teacher assesses your child at the free trial. More on our Quran for kids page.
Female teachers, at home
Maktab Quran is founded and led by a female teacher, and the majority of our teachers are women. A girl in Solapur North or a mother in Solapur can learn with a woman teacher, in her own home, at a time that suits the family. Just tell the office when you contact us. Fees in rupees
The maktab circle costs ₹1,000 a month for five live classes a week in a group capped at ten, where every student recites and is corrected in every class. One-to-one costs ₹5,000 a month for the same five classes with a teacher of your own. Both include the parent dashboard. Fees are arranged month to month by email. See affordable Quran classes.
Online classes or the local maktab?
If there is a good maktab near you in Solapur, keep it — the community of a masjid class cannot be replaced. What an online lesson adds is personal time: in a local class of thirty children a child may recite for two minutes; online, a one-to-one student recites for thirty. Many families use both. Where there is no maktab nearby, or the timing does not work, an online maktab keeps the daily routine going.
